“A Collision of the Real World and the Virtual World”
June 4th, 2007 by HeywoodNo no, I’m not referring to an MTV show taking place in Second Life, but rather, a newly announced product from Microsoft (they’ve really been on a roll of late; see SteveB’s post on Surface Computing if you didn’t already).
Microsoft’s Photosynth is truly remarkable. I posted last week about Google StreetView, and I was amazed at how we’re inching closer and closer to having a digital representation on the human level of the physical world in which we reside. But Photosynth really is a step further.
Blaise Aguera y Arcas and his team have come up with a product that links and overlays similar images, so all pictures of a particular building, for example, are “stitched” together and users can navigate between the images in seamless fashion, as if they were looking at the structure itself.
