Introducing….Animoto
August 12th, 2007 by HeywoodOver the last few months, I’ve been lucky enough to be an alpha-tester for Animoto, a new photo-sharing portal that’s set to launch to the general public on Tuesday August 14.
Animoto is unlike anything I’ve ever used before, so it’s hard to describe the service concisely. The guys at Animoto describe themselves as “helping people better share their stories and express themselves through online media” and their tagline “Welcome to the end of slideshows” is, in my opinion, fairly descriptive of what their service will do to the world of sharing images and stories online.
So, what does Animoto actually do? Well, instead of just uploading photos to share on a website like Flickr or Snapfish, on Animoto, you upload your photos, pick a song to go along with the photos, and submit the whole package. The team uses their patent-pending cinematic artificial intelligence technology and high-end motion design to create a one-of-a-kind, professionally-produced video of your photos that play and almost dance along with the soundtrack. Check out a video I made in memory of my dog that passed away this past year (she was 14 years old, so it’s ok):
