Sounds like they took the name from Rum Kugel. Translatable as Rum Balls.

I used to love these in Germany when I was 16.

If ya like that, you should try a TREE SMACKER!

 Tree Smacker Recipe

Ingredients
1 pint Peach Schnapps
1 pint Apple Schnapps
1 pint Rum
1/2 cup Pineapple Juice
1/2 cup Orange Juice
1/2 cup Sweet and Sour Mix
Grenadine
1 splash 151 Proof Rum

(NOTE: HOLY SHIT! "1 pint"????)
My friend makes them and they are KILLER! After getting completely hammered off of them one night, I mistakenly assumed and demonstrated that the name was because it MAKES YOU SMACK INTO TREES. Turns out, it's because all the fruit comes off TREES. Who knew? I think both explanations are acceptable.
