At least according to Think Geek, the Japanese kanji character for “lucky” is similar in appearance to the character for “doodie/poo.”
(If anyone can verify this, please do so in the comment section below).

Thus, a golden doodie good luck charm.

    Its true. The kanji for happiness, wish, fortune, or also luck is 幸, or sachi. One of the kanji that can be used for feces, dregs, refuse, or scum is 滓, or kasu. The kanji for Feces is the same luck, just with another part (called a radical) in front of it.
