Salute to Our Readers: Germany

July 9th, 2008 by timbotron

We’ve recently been getting a large number of new Blogadilla readers from outside the United States. To honor our new readers, I’d like to do a weekly salute to the nations of our new readership.

This week, we salute the Blogadilla readers from Germany.

They have been saying so many nice things about us - we’d like to return the love and list several things that make Germany cool:

• For starters, no major German “boy bands” have become popular in the U.S.; Germany is doing their part to keep the United States free of German boy bands. Thank you Germany. And I will do my part to keep N’Sync away from your borders as well.

• The popular fairy tales Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Rumpelstiltskin, Hansel and Gretel, and Rapunzel all come from Germany and were popularized by German linguists/folklorists, the Brothers Grimm. Dear Germany, I’m sorry that Disney has done unspeakable things to these stories.
Like removing the awesome sex scenes.

• Germany is the home of the Cuckoo Clock - it was originally designed in Germany some time in the 16th century.

• Many of the great classical composers were from Germany: Johann Sebastian Bach, Johannes Brahms, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Richard Wagner.

Bayerische Motoren Werke (BMW) is known around the world for making fine cars. Someday I will be able to afford a used one.

• The best German holiday, ever: Oktoberfest.
