What A Difference 8 Years Makes

January 13th, 2009 by Heywood

Clearly it’s been a tough presidency for the 43rd POTUS– as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.

What a difference 8 years (of failure) makes.

Mission Accomplished Bonus Round:

(added by Timbotron)

A note of clarification:
Dear Trolls,
This is not intended to represent the actual physical state of Iraq today. We have overlooked the images of the droves of Iraqis frolicking in peace for the sake of sarcastic emphasis. And likewise, we actually used a photograph of late actor Jack Palance to portray a weathered George W. Bush. We know you are all smart enough to understand the message: our nation (and Iraq) has had a rough time these last few years.
Grow up.
Love, Timbo.

DUDE– Spot on. Nice add! (though not very nice of GWB & Cronies)

    first!

  3. Mark H Says:

Hmmm the year 2000 in Iraq? Seems Saddam and his sons were brutalizing the people killing men women and children, heck even the Iraqi olympic team members were being killed for poor performance. Now the Iraqi citizens are free and the country is being rebuilt. Your so simple minded its pathetic

  4. Samuel Albert Martin Says:

yeah, im glad we headed in the opposite direction.

  5. misanthropy today Says:

I hope bush is happy back in texas, drinking beers and beating the crap out of laura for trivial mistakes.

    God bless him.

  6. William Says:

haha, George Bush aged over eight years, he’s such a jerk. Oh yeah and their dictator’s dead…waste of time.

  7. chris Says:

simple minded? looks like this guy doesnt know much about what kind of man saddam really was, and why he was really killed. Fools.

In response to “Your [you're] so simple minded its [it's] pathetic”-
Iraq is still not rebuilt: unemployment is intolerably high, civilian/collateral casualties are a daily sight, and though we may have done them a great favor by removing Hussein from power, the place is still a huge mess. The clean-up process has taken too long for several less than honorable reasons. I present to you Naomi Klein’s “Baghdad Year Zero” – a nice, brief article about what the hell happened: http://harpers.org/archive/2004/09/0080197

    All my lovin’

  9. Jess Says:

    Ahem…You(’re) so simple(-)minded(,) it(’)s pathetic(.)

There are other things I could correct in that post, but I’ll leave it at that.

  10. Jerry Says:

Type in Reagan/Sadaam and find how those Kurds in the north were murdered with chemicals we supplied. Further you will read how we supplied weapons to him to fight Iran and then Oliver, the “hero? sold arms to Iran…yes, Sadaam was evil, we knew it and we used him

  11. Heywood Says:

There is no denying that Sadaam was evil. He was terrible to his people and an overall bad dude; this is all true. But that’s a) not why we decided to invade and occupy Iraq, and b) not justification for invading and occupying any sovereign country, evil dictator or no.

Simply stated, Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and all of the other cronies decided to invade Iraq whether or not there was evidence, lying to America and the world in the process and sinking us in a trillion dollar debt to China. And lastly, despite your claim, Iraq isn’t “free”– perhaps they weren’t “free” under Saddam, but it’s not a one-or-the-other situation. Until we get out of their country, they stand no chance of achieving freedom in any meaningful sense of the word.

    Goofy site

  13. ListenEllipse Says:

To the author: Excellent choice of Iraq pictures. The blown up building in the 2008 picture is exactly what all of Iraq looks like. Even the polling stations they are going to on election day today look basically like the blown up building you selected. Excellent use of objective reporting without cherry picking your sources.

  14. Jay Says:

Mark H., they are not simple minded, that would require something akin to a small amount of independent thought. The far left only know how to blindly hate and mumble what the far left media want them to repeat. It is sad, very sad.

  15. GWB Says:

@ Jess – correcting someone’s grammar is a lame way of trying to discredit someone when you have nothing else to say. And how about instead of ‘other things’ you say ‘other mistakes’ to make it a more declarative sentence?

Also for this post, why don’t you get an official picture of GWB in 2008 like the one in 2000, rather than a candid photo of him frowning? Of course he will look much older 8 years later, especially when he’s frowning.

And in the case of the Iraq pictures, how about showing a city-scape photo like in the ‘before’ photo rather than a picture of one destroyed building for the ‘after’. To relate this so that your simple, uneducated liberal mind can understand; this is like you showing a full shot of the Las Vegas Strip in 2000, then showing a close up on the rubble of the Stardust Hotel & Casino that was imploded a few years ago, and saying the town has gone to shit because of GWB.

How about you get some pictures that don’t put spin on the issue. Get a life and stop blaming Bush; look at congress. You are probably one of the people that blames him for national debt, which by the way, follows a yearly trend upward (or downward depending on how you want to see it) since the beginning of deficit spending. Well, your new President is about to add another 30% on to that national debt in his first 30 days in office through a wasteful ’stimulus’ bill that won’t stimulate anything.

  16. GWB Says:

p.s. if you’re going to correct my spelling or punctuation don’t waste my time, I could care less and you aren’t sticking it to me, you’re just proving you have nothing to say.

  17. DAVE ID Says:

Damn! That’s dramatic. looks more like 20 years.

  18. Laura Logie Says:

Bush did a lot of good things. He did not open up our country to pay for federal abortions like Obama just did. He also appointed good judges to the Supreme Court. He gave us our tax stimulus checks. He did many wonderful things but people just want to talk about things they don’t like.

  19. Laura Logie Says:

We don’t want our hard-earned tax dollars to pay for people to get abortions. The federal government should not be paying for abortions. Things will be different now. Millions of babies will be murdered (aborted) under the new administration.

  20. ambeeeant Says:

“Seems Saddam and his sons were brutalizing the people killing men women and children”

Much better now that these men, women, and children are being killed by U.S. air strikes and artillery.

  21. Jacob Says:

i find it funny you post a picture of baghdad as a whole city, and then your contrast picture is a neighborhood, where terrorists are hiding and killing not only our soiliders but innocent iraqis, come on man get real, while the picture of bush is quite interesting, i must say

  22. CR Says:

…and doesn’t anyone think it’s ironic that the ongoing war in Iraq has suddenly disappeared from the news now that Obama is President? War? What war? If the blatantly biased media tells you for 7 years to hate someone, guess who you’re going to hate? If they tell you to be against the cause which has freed 25,000,000 people, guess which cause you’re going to be against. Regardless of what elitist Liberals want to tell you, there have been 5 military campaigns by the US in the last 20 years – 3 of them liberated middle eastern countries. There’s absolutely nothing for the US to be ashamed of…yet self-hate seems to be the latest fad here in the US.

PS – I thought Barack Obama already made the word a better place, why are we still debating these issues that don’t even exist anymore simply because that man breathes oxygen? F’n morons…

  23. Matthew Seeley Says:

So Laura, you would rather we not allow people to have abortions? Is it just because you don’t want to pay for it or is it because you’re one of those uber religious people. I’ll admit that I really don’t like the idea of abortions but I am certainly not going to try and take away others rights to do so if they wish. After all its none of my business nor is it yours. What other people wish to do about their bodies and fetuses growing inside them is their decision and you should respect that. After all most people have a reason why they wish to get an abortion like not being able to take care of a baby. If they carried the baby to term and then decided to give the child up to the state for adoption you as a taxpayer would be picking up the tab so that is not an excuse. So what exactly is your reason behind your opposition?

  24. Windyo Says:

Laura Logie : This is EPIC troll, my friend. ’nuff said.

  25. Angie Says:

If you want to do a fair comparison, also show pics of past presidents early in their term and at the end. You’ll see major changes in their appearances as well. The weight of a country will change anyone. Not limited to just Bush. And I’m sure you’ll find equally damaging pictures of what was going on during previous presidents’ watch / actions as well.

  26. Snerd Says:

“Oh yeah and their dictator’s dead…waste of time.”

Yep. Big waste of time. Gone are the good old days when Iraqis were dropped feet first into industrial shredders. Gawd I wish Saddam were alive today.

  27. ???? Says:

    To: Laura Logie

This is a new age and women should be aloud to make whatever decisions they want to…. and that includes having the option to have an abortion. Not every one of us Americans believes in the same god… some of us don’t believe in any god. Just for that reason, I think that it’s good that Obama signed the bill to allow funding to go towards abortions.

Oh and where is your head? Bush didn’t do anything good for the country…. look at all the problems that we have because of him.

  28. Ben Says:

Why is that if you kill a woman who is pregnant it is double homicide, but if a woman pays someone to kill the baby it is completely legal. I just don’t get it. Yep and if absolutely believe that Bush hasn’t done anything good you a) don’t know anything about politics b) watch NBC news and read only liberal blogs c) can pick up my tab when this huge pork filled piece of s*** disguised as a stimulus bill passes.

  29. Heywood Says:

Karen: Let me say it again– Saddam was a horrible man.

But that was never the justification for this war, and it never will be. Cheney, Rumsfeld and everyone else cherry picked “evidence” to support the notion that there were WMDs in Iraq, to justify invading it and occupying it (and giving all sorts of no-bid contracts to Halliburton and other corrupt corporations in the process [who then went and did stuff like skimp on electrical wiring in showers and kill American soldiers]).

The war is and has been illegal and Bush is responsible for the deaths of over 1 million people. How can any of you protest the notion of abortion when you condone the murder of Iraqis– evil or not??

  30. william selavka Says:

Regardless of the situation of the people of Iraq, W remains the worst leader of the United States in my lifetime at age 52. So sad.

  31. Great Website! Says:

Uh, man oh man do you guys take this waaaaaay too seriously!
I looked at the pictures, I laughed, I moved onto the next one.

Yes you may or may not agree with the picture is iraq better/ isnt it?
Is Former President Bush looking older now?/ isnt he?
But really its just a joke people….CALM DOWN!!!
Or even better all go up a bit and laugh at silly old Nigeria arresting a goat for auto theft.

*prepares for the impending doom of angry fellow posters*
