Now You Know: Kutiman
March 11th, 2009 by HeywoodAccording to TechCrunch (and my friend Fritz who tipped me off), Kutiman can be considered to be the first musician ‘born’ on Twitter (check out the buzz). After 3 months scouring YouTube and other video sharing sites to find sweet samples of singers and instruments (guitars, drums, harps, harmonicas, pianos, something called a ‘bouzouki’ and more), Kutiman chopped up, mashed up, blended– whatever you want to call it– more than 100 video clips to make music from Thru-You, an innovative and massively cool mashup EP that is definitely worth checking out.
Here’s one of Kutiman’s music videos– truly impressive:

I highly recommend checking out Kuitman’s vids. In his eighth episode he talks about his work, but he doesn’t do himself justice! For a viewer to have the visual cues that accompany the various origins of the mashed-up sounds is a truly wonderful concept….
…most people have no idea that the popular music available today is little more than creative mixtures of work that other people wrote, performed, and produced long beforehand.

Kutiman is doing what RjD2 or DJ Shadow did with music but he added the new dimension with video. I get the feeling that this will be the next big thing for web video, but any newcomers will have a hard time outdoing this guy. Nice post, thanks Heywood.
