Behold! Psycho Donuts!
March 31st, 2009 by ampLast weekend my kids and I stumbled upon Psycho Donuts in Campbell, CA. The sell donuts covered with Fruit Loops, Oreos, chocolate covered pretzels, and Nilla Wafers. They also make “donut fries” with jelly filing dip. They have some creepy art for sale on the walls and the folks at the counter wear lab coats. We got Coco Marbles, the Psycho, and Do-Nila. It’s medication time…

So what’s next in the line for tasteless business names – Cancer Cookies? Paraplegic Pasta? Anyone with a family member with a brain injury or disorder will find this business name and their products extremely insulting. If you have ever experienced or visited an in-patient hospital for people who are extremely mentally ill, you will know it’s not the least bit funny. I can’t believe anyone would be so mean and imagine that being hip.

Today at school my Civics teacher was passing out articles for our “Current Events” projects we do every Friday and I was given an article about the controversy Psycho Donuts has caused. I stumbled on this sight when looking for some pics. I understand that to someone with a mental illness, this may not be funny, but I don’t think the owner’s really meant to do any harm or cause this much trouble. They just wanted to have an unusual donut shop that caught people’s attention, but this was not what they expected. Either way, you have to admit that the whole idea and atosphere was pretty creative.
