Both the Photo of the Week and the Bacon Product of the Week:

I followed this guy for 15 minutes to get a good snapshot of his vanity plate.
Dude, we love that you love bacon.
Unless you’re actually just a fan of Francis Bacon, which is still cool.
Jason from GorillaSushi:
“He might have wanted to memorialize the time he saw Kevin Bacon in Las Vegas.”
Heywood:
“Or maybe the guy is from the small Eastern European town of Bacon, Latvia?”

Palo Alto, CA.
Pampas - a new Brazilian churrasco restaurant.
Dessert menu item: “chocolate torte served with caramel ice cream, crème fraiche sauce, bacon Brazil nut toffee, smoked sea salt.”
Consulting Executive Pastry Chef: Marisa Churchill
The toffee is a nice blend - far better than other bacon chocolate combinations I’ve tried in the past - a good balance of texture (Brazil nuts and bacon) with pleasant sweetness (chocolate and toffee) and the finish of salty and smokey umami (bacon).
Overall Bacony Goodness Score: ***** 5/5

Wow. We’ve talked about Bacon & Chocolate before in bar form, but this week’s Bacon Product of the Week takes the combination to a whole new level. Marini’s Munchi’s of Santa Cruz, CA– also known for their Goatse-esque logo– has, after numerous R&D trials, no doubt, developed the mythical chocolate covered bacon.

At $17.00 per pound, eat it at your own risk, though it sure looks tasty. Or, if you’re the more adventurous type, you can even try Kevin Karagitz’s homemade recipe. But as he says, proceed with EXTREME CAUTION.

This week’s Bacon Product of the Week is a re-cap and review of earlier BPOWs. The Baltimore Sun’s reporter Sam Sessa checks in from Capt. Larry’s Bar where they are serving our beloved bacon vodka (!!).
Sam’s review gets off to a rough start describing the special treat, ruining our mental-imagery moment by talking about Beggin’ Strips dog treats, but then goes on to describe it as having, “a robust, meaty aroma that pleased the palette, grounded by a sharp undercurrent of liquor.”
Sam mentions in his own posted comments about the article mention he wanted to chase his porky vodka goodness with a scrabbled egg-tini, but the bartender would not oblige. Bummer.

This week, I bring you two bacon products– one tame; one risqué (and possibly NSFW). CHOOSE YOUR OWN BACON ADVENTURE! (OK, so what if it’s not as complex as those books that were all the rage when I was in elementary school?)
Tame Bacon: “Pocket Bacon”
‘Pocket Bacon‘ is crocheted from red and white yarn can be yours for the low price of $5.00 + S/H. As the artist says, this is “seriously the dumbest thing I have ever made but you guys seem to like it” and “You can use this as a bookmark but other than that I am at a loss, I mean, you SO TOTALLY need this.” Click the image below to order:

Risqué Bacon: The Bacon Bra
The Bacon Bra is quite possibly the strangest application of an uncooked meat product that I’ve seen– well, it comes close (read #31693)– and I’m not sure The Bacon Bra is safe for work, but I’m going to post it anyways, since there’s no nudity or anything. Suffice to say, if you hear your boss approaching, stop reading this page and switch to another tab in your browser until the coast is clear. Or, if you work in the garment industry, perhaps your boss will feel you’ve discovered an entire new line of products. You be the judge.

The good news here is that you can procure a bacon bra at your local supermarket without paying shipping and handling (woman not included; sorry guys). Personally, I’m thinking of creating and patenting the Bacon Jock Strap. Either that or the Bacon Manzier (the Bacon Bro?). Thoughts?

That’s right folks….bacon and cheese flavored crickets. These are made by a company called HotLix, a specialty candy company that has an entire line of insect candies, such as Chocolate Insects, Real Scorpion Suckers, and Larvets. Any takers for a Tequila-flavored Worm Sucker?
Big shout out to Blogadilla reader billb, who sent us what is definitely our weirdest Bacon Product of the Week to date. Can any of you out there one up him? Keep posting your bacon finds in the comments!

First we brought you the Bacontini. Now we teach you how to make it…or at least, make the main ingredient in it: Bacon Vodka!

You’ll be surprised though, this isn’t actually very tough. The BrowniePointsBlog lays it out in 8 easy steps:
- Fry up three strips of bacon.
- Add cooked bacon to a clean pint sized mason jar.
- Trim the ends of the bacon if they are too tall to fit in the jar (or you can just throw a bunch of fried up bacon scraps in the mason jar).
- Optional: Add crushed black peppercorns.
- Fill the remainder of the bacon/peppercorn mason jar with vodka.
- Cap and place in a dark cupboard for at least three weeks. That’s right– don’t refrigerate it.
- After the three week resting period, place the bacon vodka in the freezer to solidify the fats. Strain out the fats through a coffee filter to yield a clear filtered pale yellow bacon vodka.
- Decant into decorative bottles and enjoy.

Be separated from Kevin Bacon by only one degree with this nifty t-shirt from NoStar Clothing:

$24 is kind of pricey though. Alternative solution: Buy bacon, fry bacon, tape bacon to grey t-shirt. Remember to eat bacon before washing.

How can you say no to Uncle Oinker’s Gummy Bacon for only $4.95 per pack?

According to Archie McPhee, gummy bacon is “…so realistic you’ll want to fry some up and serve them with an egg and a side of hash browns. But please don’t,” they encourage. “Gummy Bacon should only be savored raw.”
(Thanks for the tip, Isabel!)

What more can you ask for, than when you get a cut and can cover up your wound with bacon?

And don’t forget…there’s a free toy inside!

No joke.
Bacon . . . and Chocolate.
Two great flavors that go together like . . . snakes and planes.
The Vosges Haut Chocolate Bacon Bar.

I recently tried it* - it has small bits of applewood smoked bacon and alderwood smoked salt in it. Imagine smokey and salty (and bacony) with chocolatey. It’s not bad, it’s just unexpected: meat and candy. Imagine eating bacon and then shoving chocolate in there.

Saint Anthony is the patron saint of pigs and butchers, and from the math I learned in school, 1+1=BACON. For a paltry $4.95, you can get your very own, miniature St. Anthony to whom you can pray for bacon, about bacon, or for a bacon related miracle.

Ewww?!
Vodka, and bacon = the bacontini!

I think a better way might just be to use this bacon salt on the rim of a martini glass, then fill it with vodka! I’ll let you know how it goes…
