He’s the Zissou
Saturday, May 10th, 2008There are two kinds of people out there:
1). Those who loved the 2004 Wes Anderson film “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.”
2). Those who didn’t.
I loved it. I still love it.
If you’ve never seen the official website - it (still) may be one of the best designed websites out there, and worth checking out.
An interesting note of Zissou fandom:

Two Haiku Movie Review: Iron Man
Tuesday, May 6th, 2008Thought I would hate it.
It was surprisingly good:
four stars out of five.
Downey and Paltrow
truly made the movie great.
Will watch it again.
Bonus Round: Iron Man T-Shirt
Two Haiku Movie Review: Baby Mama
Saturday, May 3rd, 2008I like Tina Fey.
And Amy Poehler kicks ass.
But the film was dull.
It really dragged on.
45 minutes too long.
It felt like nine months.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Marketing
Monday, April 28th, 2008With the new Indiana Jones movie less than a month away (24 days left), it was only a matter of time until the marketing tie-ins cropped up.
M&Ms offers Indiana Jones M&M candies - like regular M&Ms, but with skulls, pyramids, compass roses, Indy hats, and Precolombian masks printed on them.
LEGO managed to produce cool Indiana Jones sets months ago (though I still can’t find them in stores).

Oh Adobe, You’ve Done It Again
Thursday, April 10th, 2008Yesterday Adobe released their Adobe Media Player (AMP).
It has a nice iTunes Store feel to it, but without having to buy anything - TV shows, podcasts, movie shorts, all free and all playing smoothly. I recommend you download it (it’s free!).
Also, this is perhaps the smoothest-running 1.0 version of anything I’ve ever used (apparently bug-free).
Suck it, Windows Media Player!

Two Haiku Movie Review: Shutter
Thursday, April 10th, 2008Japanese ghost chick.
Like ‘The Grudge’ with photographs.
New meaning: “dark room.”
A good ghost story.
The Thai version was better.
Now neck cramps scare me.

Look Out For: ‘Sweded Movies’
Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008Since the movie “Be Kind Rewind” came out in theaters last month, ‘Sweded‘ videos have become all the rage - YouTube is flush with ‘Sweded’ flicks.
For those of you not familiar with the concept of ‘Sweding’: it is a homemade remake of a movie, often involving a lot of cardboard.
Here are some of the more spectacular ‘Sweded’ films (some of these were made prior to the movie “Be Kind Rewind,” but can still be considered ‘Sweded’):
Star Wars • Tron • Jurassic Park • Terminator 2 • Back to the Future • 300 • I Am Legend • Top Gun • Point Break • Home Alone • Groundhog Day • The Silence of the Lambs • Alien • Total Recall • The Lord of the Rings • Mad Max (by the Neistat Bros) • Kill Bill (part 1) • The Shining • Goldfinger

Rejected! Failed Star Wars Schwag…
Thursday, March 27th, 2008A long, long time ago (1998 to be exact) and in anticipation of the release of the first of three Star Wars prequels, toy maker Jason Deyer and his buddy Steve Ross were approached to design ‘Dealer Loaders’ for promotions and giveaways. But because they were ‘unapproved vendors’ (AKA not part of George Lucas’ monolith) Jason and his friend had to base their designs on the original trilogy.
You can check out the original drawings on Jason’s blog, Action Figure Insider, and you also can hear an interview about his trials and tribulations on NPR. Make sure to check out NPR’s Bryant Park Project page on the Star Wars merchandise, here. (Click ‘Listen Now’ for the interview).

Movie Review: 10,000 BC Holy Sh!t This Was Bad!!
Saturday, March 8th, 2008
Blogadilla co-author Allison and I just got back from watching 10,000 BC. The following is an inventory of our comments driving home from the movie:
•”It’s sad when the best actor in a movie is a computer animated Wooly Mammoth.”
•”If they show this on an airplane, I’m jumping.”
•”This is what happens when you take drugs in a natural history museum.”
•”I’ve picked scabs that were more satisfying.”
•”It was a great comedy.”
•”Roland Emmerich peaked at Godzilla.”
•”10,000 BC - yeah, 10,000 Bad Choices.”
•”Why is it that everyone in 10,000 BC looked like Adam Duritz from Counting Crows?”
