Coolest House Ever

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

Check out “Eliphante,” a sculptural home-turned arts museum in Cornville, Arizona that is the product of 28 years of hard work by artist Michael Kahn and his wife, Leda Livant. The New York Times online has a great slideshow, showing parts of the house, as well as some of the creative/constructive processes. Included in the house are an outdoor summer kitchen, extensive stained glass artwork (seen below), a piano built into a wall of driftwood, and more.  Not to mention that the home resides on small river that the couple uses to canoe. All very cool; check it out:

Nintendo Marching Band Madness

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

While the University of California marching band is sometimes overshadowed by Pac-10 nemesis Stanford, you’ve got to hand it to Cal for their recent Nintendo-themed half time show against Washington State. As a friend pointed out, in the “Pong” sequence, the people must have had to run at least 40 yards in each direction!

Two Haiku Movie Review: Into the Wild

McCandless was right,
with great quotes and bad music,
about feeling strong.

Every one should,
go into the wild sometime,
but do leave a trail.

EARTHf*&%ingQUAKE!!!

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

This evening we had an earthquake here in the South Bay Area.
Magnitude: 5.6.
Location: San Jose-ish.
No big deal.

A list of lame things to do during an earthquake

•Duck-and-cover beneath your 100 gallon fishtank.
•Play Jenga.
•Find shelter underground: a deep parking garage or an old mineshaft.
•Get a tattoo.
•Climb onto the roof of your 7 story apartment building so nothing will fall on you.
•Wait for FEMA to bring help.
•Trim your eyelashes or nose hair.
•Seek shelter in a greenhouse or a cactus nursery.
